The acetylene cylinder is an exception to other gas cylinders because it is completely filled with a porous mass, into which acetone has been sucked. This porous mass ensures a permanent distribution of the acetone throughout the contents.

Details

40L Acetylene Gas Cylinders Standards ISO3807
Acetylene cylinders do not contain compressed or liquefied acetylene; instead they contain acetylene gas dissolved in acetone that is absorbed onto a porous mass within the cylinder. The porous mass inhibits the decomposition reaction, providing time for emergency action in the event of a mishap.

Acetylene is distinguished from other flammable gases by its ability to continue to 'self-heat' after a fire has been extinguished. An oxygen/acetylene system requires a cylinder of compressed acetylene gas as well as a cylinder of compressed high-purity oxygen. It combines these gases to get an intense flame temperature. An air/acetylene system only requires the use of a single acetylene tank and gets oxygen from the atmosphere.

The main purpose of acetylene gas
It is one of the important raw materials for organic synthesis. It is a monomer of synthetic rubber, synthetic fiber and plastic, and is also used for oxyacetylene welding and cutting, heating fuel gas, etc.

Hazardous characteristics:
Mixing with air can form an explosive mixture, which can cause combustion and explosion when exposed to open fire or high heat, and can have violent chemical reactions with fluorine and chlorine. It can form explosive compounds with Cu, Ag, Hg and other compounds.

Precautions for storage and transportation:
The packaging method of acetylene is usually dissolved in solvents and porous materials, packed into steel cylinders, and stored in a cool, ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire, heat sources and direct sunlight. It should be stored separately from oxygen, compressed air, halogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, oxidants, etc.

Forbidden from:
Strong oxidizing agents, strong acids, halogens
